BOND/360 ACQUIRES TV SERIES FOLLOWING THE US AMBASSADOR TO DENMARK
AMBASSADOR RUFUS GIFFORD AND HIS HUSBAND ARE SUBJECTS OF POPULAR REALITY SHOW ‘I AM THE AMBASSADOR,’ NOW ON NETFLIX AND SET FOR DIGITAL RELEASE IN THE UNITED STATES
NEW YORK, September 20, 2016 – BOND/360 announced today it has acquired the US and Canadian rights to I AM THE AMBASSADOR. The popular Danish reality TV series follows Rufus Gifford, the American ambassador to Denmark. Known for his charisma and championing of LGBT rights, Gifford has made a name for himself and reached celebrity status in the country of 5.7 million. The ten-part series is now available on Netflix and will be followed by a digital release on iTunes and DVD this Fall.
Meet the American ambassador to Denmark: Rufus Gifford. Since 2014, this Danish TV series has given viewers an up-close-and-personal look at foreign relations, Gifford-style. With a past in Hollywood as a creative executive and later on as the finance director of President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign, Gifford moved to Denmark in 2013 with his partner Stephen DeVincent as the new US Ambassador to Denmark. Getting up close and personal, viewers get a front row seat of the charismatic Ambassador’s life: embassy briefings; bantering with his then boyfriend, now husband; lunching with the Danish defense minister; singing a cappella about commerce with the trade minister to the tune of “New York, New York”; hosting an outdoor screening of True Detective with Nic Pizzolatto; attending gay pride events; and more.
With his untraditional ways and modern approach to diplomacy, Gifford has cemented his celebrity status in the Scandinavian nation and abroad as a champion of LGBT rights and international diplomacy.
