DOCUMENTARY FOLLOWS international artists and knitters as they bring their WORK to the streets

NEW YORK, March 7, 2016 – BOND/360 announced today it has acquired the exclusive North American rights to YARN, a vibrant documentary that follows top international artists and knitters as they bring yarn to the streets and into people’s lives in sensational new ways. The film was directed by Una Lorenzen, an Icelandic filmmaker and animator. After making its debut at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival, BOND/360 will release the documentary in theaters in mid 2016.

The traditional crafts of crochet and knitting have become one of the hottest movements in modern art. Starting in Iceland, this quirky and thought-provoking film takes us on a colorful and global journey as we discover how yarn connects us all. Featured in the documentary are world-renowned wool graffiti artist Olek, interactive textile creator and curator Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam, production designer Tilde Björfors of Cirkus Cikör, and National Humanities Medal winning writer Barbara Kingsolver.

“Our aim was to honor the art of knitting and showcase today’s leading artists who work with yarn as their primary medium,” says co-director and producer Heather Millard. “We are thrilled that BOND/360 has come on board to help us share our unique story that shows how yarn can bring people together.

YARN celebrates today’s cutting-edge artists and contextualizes how historically women’s crafts, as well as women artists, have been marginalized,” said BOND/360 COO Elizabeth Sheldon. “BOND’s history is closely tied to the world of street art and this film is the perfect complement to our growing collection.”

Elizabeth Sheldon of BOND/360 negotiated the deal with Spier Film’s Heather Millard. The festival and theatrical release will be followed by an all rights release that will encompass community screenings, an educational campaign, a digital launch and a home video release in time for the holidays.
